Mike Fernino, founder of Music In Motion Entertainment from Seymour Connecticut is well known for his lighting endeavors including hundreds of gorgeous architectural lighting designs for weddings, mitzvahs and private events. Mike and his team at Music In Motion have brought the “wow factor” to many of the events they entertain as Disc Jockeys.
Using computer software the Music In Motion team can match custom colors, create scenes, change colors, project monogram designs, map cakes and walls and even create a night sky on the ceiling of your venue. With all that knowledge came a thirst to share it with others in a educational forum. “I wanted to start a event specifically for the advancement of training in the lighting field so that others could bring the magic to their events too,” says Mike.
So, in 2013 Mike set out to create the very first lighting workshop for DJs to become lighting designers. Along with partner Ben Stowe, a very gifted audio and lighting engineer Mike organized his first event. It was called, The Lighting Symposium. The workshop was held in Burnsville Minnesota at Electro Voice world headquarters in their classroom called the academy. It neatly held 50 chairs for the attendees. The 2 day workshop featured multiple presenters on a wide range of topics to encompass the field of lighting programming, design and concept. Attended by 38 attendees, everyone walked out much more skilled in the specialized art of lighting design and program.
With rave reviews the event was reprised in 2014 with a larger turnout and same result. Djs who just knew the minimum about lighting were turned into lighting designers and given the tools to create amazing effects for their clients! The event flourished and became a sold out annual event.
In 2019 the event is taking a year off but Mike and Ben have decided to come back again in 2020 due to great demand! Mike and his staff at Music In Motion Entertainment have been teaching other DJs from around the world how to create sensational lighting atmosphere for private events.
