The Great Outdoors * A Summer 2020 Wedding

Ahhhh….. outdoor summer weddings. What is better than that? Well, after the COVID-19 pandemic an outdoor summer event may be the only way to have a wedding for the summer of 2020.

Based on remarks made by Governor Ned LaMont of the state of Connecticut on May 13, he stated that it would be a priority of his to address weddings and graduations for July and August based on the fact they can be held outside. Right there was the important language. “Held Outside.”  According to several wedding facilities I have talked with the state of Connecticut seems to be leaning towards letting weddings start back up but outdoors only for the summer. This is also based on a certain size for your guest list. A small indoor wedding of 50 should be allowed. For larger guest lists of 75 or more indoor weddings should resume for September and October .

Governor Lamont seems to be progressing in a step by step process beginning May 20 with a phase 1 opening of Connecticut business. Phase 2 comes June 20 with a assessment of whether or not the virus remains in recession or even a significant reduction of the numbers. That means Phase 3 should be July 20. God willing……

It is just my personal opinion that weddings will happen this summer BUT if you have a wedding facility and plan a indoor reception of more than 50 guests you might want to call and see what outdoor opportunities exist at their venue?  Other options are to postpone to the later part of summer or even fall. Winter weddings can be beautiful and then there is always the 2021 exodus.

Ultimately, if you still want a summer 2020 wedding I think you need to have it as a outdoor event, otherwise your venue might have to require you to make a postponement of date. This is my speculation. Please don’t make your plans based on my remarks. But, it is good to be informed and have a plan….. and a back-up plan for that plan.
