Is it ever going to stop? Smart phones have become personal communication devices like in Star Trek. Now we can navigate, make dinner reservations, buy stocks, update our Facebook pages, Tweet, and do just about everything else right from the pad of this small pocket device. But there is a dark side to smart phones and that is the disruptive nature of the little guy, which can make people act like complete idiots when under the spell of this technology.
How many times have you gone out to a restaurant only to hear the guy next to you having a business conversation, or a ringing phone going off all night. Obviously, we all know of the dangers associated with texting and driving! Some people can’t put the darn thing down even when going into a movie! Doctors offices and many more public facilities are starting to outlaw smart phones. And with good reason. They are disruptive. And there should be another place NO smart phone should ever go: WEDDINGS!
It seems that every time I do sound for a wedding ceremony, and the bride and groom are standing up at the alter area, some one’s phone goes off. The embarrassed wedding guest fumbles around feverishly while their stupid ringtone of some 80’s song plays as wedding guests laugh in the background. Let’s face it folks, this is just rude and inconsiderate behavior. There is no reason to bring a smart phone into a church, chapel, or any wedding ceremony area. At least, use the vibrate feature if you can’t disconnect with reality for 30 minutes.

Brides and Grooms to be, take this small bit of advice… Please ask your wedding officiant to make an announcement before the start of the ceremony. “NO PHONES during this service. Please turn them off!” That one small announcement most likely will stop an embarrassing moment at your special event.
