As a professional wedding entertainer at Music In Motion Entertainment I have definitely seen my fair share of wedding trends over the past 30 years. Some come and go just as fast and others have staying power. Heck, many people said that photo booths were just a fad back 14 years ago. They are still around more popular than ever.
Here in New England there is a current trend of rustic weddings and themes that embody simplicity. Losing favor are elements of tradition and in favor are elements of fun! For example, there has been a trend lately for weddings held in barns or at a farm. Not that Connecticut has a corn-belt mentality but the rustic feel is alive and well in the current wedding scene.
And with that element of simplicity comes a return to a more innocent time. A return to our child-hood and a introduction of games at a wedding. One game I used to play as a kid was called bean bag. Simply throw the bean bag onto a board and get it to fall into a hole. How simply is that? Hours and hours of entertainment! And now, years and years later this game has returned to a wedding reception near you!
Affectionately referred to in the South as “Cornhole” this simple game has become a popular side distraction at wedding receptions lately. You will often find two of these boards out on the lawn and wedding guests lined up to toss the bag into the hole and earn bragging rights for the remainder of the reception!
We are even now seeing the customization of the cornhole board to include the name and date of the wedding couple. Similar to a photo booth strip! Any way to add a personal touch and put your signature on YOUR wedding. As mentioned previous, some wedding trends come and go and others have staying power. Which category will this game fall under? Wait and see, like anything in life 🙂
